A Study on Maternal Knowledge J1e1ated to Infant Feeding

Abstract
In order to investigate maternal knowledge related to infant feeding, a survey was performed for 1 "month from June 1, 1981. The population subjected to survey was 254 nursing mothers form delivery rooms and maternal-child health centers in two general hospitals which located in Kwangju city.
1. General characteristics of respondents:
Sixty three percent of the subjects was in the age between 25 to 29 years and 44.5% was high school graduates. Monthers with occupation were 16.9 and 40.2% was primi para.
2. Health education:
Fifty nine point four percent of the subjects was experienced health education. Subjected group of delivery room bad more experience of education than that of maternal-child health center.
3. Maternal knowledge related to infant feeding:
The score of the knowledge summed up was 71.9 points was all subjects, and was higher in the subjects of delivery room (74.2%) than those of maternal-child health center(67.7 %) . The score of knowledge for supplementary diet was 80.4 points, and that of food and nutrition, disinfection, feeding technics and breast care were 76.9 points, 72.4 points, 68.9 points and 56.2 points, respectively.
4. The relationship about knowledge of infant feeding with experience of health education, parity and educational level:
Ninety one point four percent of the subjects who were experienced health education attained the score above 60.0 points. They revealed statistically significant higher knowledge level than not-experienced subjects, i. e., only 78.6 of the latter attained the score above 60.0 points. There is no relationship between knowledge of infant feeding and parity. The degree of knowledge related to infant feeding tended to show higher scores in the group of higher educationall level but this difference was not significant statistically.
